Marigat Sub-County is edging closer to a major healthcare transformation, with plans to upgrade Marigat Sub-County Hospital to a Level Five facility gaining momentum following unanimous endorsement by residents.
The ambitious project, expected to attract an investment of close to KSh 1 billion, will be implemented through a partnership involving the National Government, the County Government of Baringo and the Government of Italy. Once completed, the facility is expected to significantly strengthen healthcare delivery in Marigat and neighbouring areas by expanding access to specialised medical services and reducing the need for patients to travel long distances in search of advanced treatment.
As part of the project development process, residents participated in a public consultation on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the proposed facility at the Marigat Sub-County Offices. The exercise provided an opportunity for the community to contribute to the planning process, raise concerns and express their views on the proposed investment. Residents unanimously endorsed the project, signalling strong community support for the planned upgrade.
The development follows an announcement by President William Ruto that Marigat would host a Level Five hospital as part of broader efforts to address longstanding healthcare challenges in the region. The proposed investment is also expected to complement wider government interventions aimed at addressing insecurity and improving access to essential services in the area.
The elevation of Marigat Sub-County Hospital to Level Five status is expected to mark a significant milestone in Baringo County's healthcare infrastructure development. Beyond improving access to quality medical care, the facility is anticipated to enhance emergency response, strengthen referral services, create employment opportunities and improve the overall health and well-being of residents.
With public support secured and the project development process advancing, the proposed hospital represents a major step towards bringing advanced healthcare services closer to the people of Marigat and the wider region.
