Baringo County joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Breastfeeding Week 2026 at Marigat Catholic Mission in Baringo South Sub-County. The theme underscores the importance of strengthening proven breastfeeding support systems, policies, health services, workplaces, families, and communities to ensure every child gets the best possible start in life.

The celebration brought together healthcare workers, mothers, caregivers, Community Health Promoters, county leaders, and development partners to champion optimal infant and young child nutrition through breastfeeding.

Participants were sensitized on the importance of early initiation of breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of life, and continued breastfeeding alongside appropriate complementary feeding up to two years and beyond. Discussions also highlighted the critical role of families, communities, employers, and healthcare providers in supporting breastfeeding mothers.

The Department of Health Services reaffirmed Baringo County's commitment to strengthening breastfeeding promotion, protection, and support interventions aimed at improving maternal, infant, and young child health outcomes.

The commemoration concluded with a renewed pledge from stakeholders and partners to build on existing successes and create an enabling environment where every mother receives the support, she needs to nurture a healthy and thriving child.
