Baringo County is set for a transformative agribusiness. Afarmers field day, held at the Koibatek Agricultural Training Center (KATC) inEldama Ravine sub-county, had leaders outlining strategies for high-valueagriculture. The event was attended by among other leaders, three PermanentSecretaries from the National Government-Dr. Kiprono Ronoh, the PS Agricultureand Livestock, Eng. John Tanui, the PS ICT and Digital Economy and Dr. ChrisKiptoo, the PS National Treasury.

Appreciating the high-profile engagement on farming in Baringo,Governor Benjamin Cheboi said the strategy to transform local farmers intoprosperous entrepreneurs is underway as KATC is made a centre of excellence withthe breeding of high-quality livestock and crops. He said the diverse climaticconditions in Baringo defines the countys potential. "We will earn more than 50 billionannually from coffee and avocados in the next five years, he said.

The National Treasury PS Dr. Chris Kiptoo assured farmersthat more budgetary allocations will be made to ensure that the Ministry ofAgriculture can provide sufficient seeds and seedlings. With the introductionof purple tea in Baringo, the PS for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Dr.Kiprono Rono, officially designated Baringo as Kenyas 23rd tea-growing countyin Kenya. He said there were plans to build a tea factory in Torongo area. Dr.Ronoh promised that the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Organization (KALRO)will support KATC in its endeavours to become a centre of excellence inagricultural enterprises. More than eight million coffee seedlings, two millionavocado seedlings and one million purple seedlings will be distributed tofarmers in Baringo.
