Residents of Kabarnet town are set to enjoy free internet services as a way of embracing ICT to spur development once the necessary infrastructure has been put in place by the County Government

While officiating this year’s annual Baringo County ICT contest sponsored by Korean based NGOs- KOICA and WorldBest Friend, Governor Stanley Kiptis revealed that talks with national government are at advanced stage to set up the facility in Kabarnet town and later extended to major urban centres across the county.

“The world is going digital and we would also want to be part of this positive transformation as we gear towards creating opportunities for our youth in the online platforms that offer both entrepreneurship and employment,” H.E Kiptis explained.

It is an initiative that will see residents in Kabarnet CBD enjoy a 24-hour free Wi-fi thus enabling them share information, enhance transparency and accountability through public participation and create a network among the youth.

He pointed out that he is liaising with CDF and Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology to ensure that all the Sub-county headquarters have ICT innovation hubs popularly known as Ajira digital Centres with free internet services which will assist youth to access online jobs and allow them obtain agribusiness and micro finance information. Youth can also showcase their unique talents and innovative ideas thus exposing them to potential investors.

While appreciating KOICA and WorldBest Friend for their continued investment and support on digitalizing of Baringo County schools, Governor Kiptis pledged his commitment in adopting use of ICT in all government departments to improve efficiency in service delivery.
