The transformative journey towards realizing the dream of "Waking the Sleeping Giant" on health financing in Baringo County

Baringo county government embarks on a journey to revitalize health financing through the department of health services. The County Government employs initiatives which will bring together health workers, development partners and, stakeholders by carrying out learning sessions on experiences in implementation of health financing interventions.
In an effort to optimize health financing schemes which are Linda Mama and Edu Afya under NHIF, the department of Health Services conducted a two-day training at Kabarnet. The training brought together health works from both level 2 and level 3 hospitals across the country for a sensitization exercise of sharing knowledge on how to efficiently claim funds from the health financing schemes.
The county government health facilities utilize the health schemes. Linda Mama scheme covers pregnant mothers and their infants while on the other hand, Edu Afya covers all public secondary students captured under the National Education Management Information System (NEMIS) and registered with NHIF. Representatives from various dispensaries had an opportunity to highlight their experiences.
While officiating the meeting, H.E Governor Cheboi commended facilities who are above70% in the claiming process. “I laud the efforts of Eldama Ravine Sub-County for attaining over 90% in the claims, Mogotio at 81% and, Baringo central at 78%” He noted.
The CECM Health Services Dr. Sirma expressed his gratitude for the session which brought together the strategic partners involved in health financing and, he encouraged the health professionals from various health centers to improve the rate and extent to which the facilities are doing the claims.
Mr. John Lekinayo, NHIF quality assurance officer reiterated on timely submission of claims for quick reimbursement and activation of Unified Payments Interface (UPIs) since inactive UPI number will not be eligible for benefits.
The County Government is committed towards ensuring that efficient and, quality service delivery is attained optimally.
Other officials present during the meeting were; Ag. Chief officer Health Services Dr. Salome Chelimo, Director preventive and promotive Health Dr. Patrick Boruett, officers from the NHIF, partners including CEDGC, USAID Tujenge Jamii, Goldstar and PS Kenya, Health professionals from various sub counties among other leaders.
